Plenary Session

Nationally renowned nonprofit management consultant Peggy Morrison Outon of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management of Robert Morris University will be the keynote speaker, kicking off the day with an address on strategic planning.

9:00 – 12:15

Workshop Tracks I, II, and III

Track I (Two 90-minute workshops)

Nonprofit 101 with Tab Burkhalter of Burkhalter-Moser, PC, and Michelle Hankes, President and CEO of United Way of Blount County

Covering the basics of operating a nonprofit organization, this workshop is for new executive directors, those interested in starting up a nonprofit, and individuals interested in a refresher on nonprofit administration. 

Innovative Fundraising – Nonprofit Gaming with John Lee, President/CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley

This 90-minute workshop will focus on laws and procedures of nonprofit gaming and what your organization needs to consider prior to conducting a game of chance.

Track II (3 hours)

Marketing and Communications on a Shoestring: How the Small Non-Profit Can Establish Positive Reputation and Relationships for Greater Reach and Donor Support with Mary Beth West, APR.

The Marketing and Communications workshop has filled up, as of 5/2/08.

Track III (3 hours)

Logic Modeling and Outcome Measurement with Dr. Janet Kelly, Faculty Associate, University of Tennessee

This workshop will be very hands-on! In Logic Modeling, Dr. Janet Kelly of the University of Tennessee will provide a hands-on workshop helping agencies create outcome measures.  Outcome measurement is designed to help organizations gauge the impact a program has in its community, and it has become increasingly vital for funding, community support, and program improvement.  Participants will be asked to complete a short reading on logic models as preparation.

An opportunity to meet and connect with local nonprofit professionals

1:45 – 2:30

Panel Discussion on Collaboration

Facilitated by Rep. Doug Overbey, the panel will focus on the value of nonprofit collaboration and working together for greater impact. Panelist will include representatives from today’s collaborating organizations, Blount County Chamber Foundation, the Center for Strong Communities at Maryville College, and United Way of Blount County.
