The Maryville College-Community Concert Band will begin spring rehearsals for its 2012-13 concert season on Wed., Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre. Rehearsals, which will be held on Wednesdays from 7 until 9 p.m., will focus on preparation for a April 18, 2013 Spring Concert, which will be held in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Area musicians who play a wind or percussion instrument are encouraged to join. Serious high school participants are also welcome.
The MC-Community Concert Band was established in 1992 by MC Associate Professor of Music Dr. Larry Smithee, who retired in May 2012. The band is delighted to welcome Tom Delozier as its new director. Delozier, who is the director of bands for Coulter Grove Intermediate School, has been a music educator for Maryville City Schools since 1991. He earned a bachelor of science in instrumental music from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of the “Pride of the Southland Band” (his primary instrument was the tuba). He also served as the band’s drum major, under the direction of Dr. W.J. Julian. Delozier earned a master’s degree in administration and supervision and is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference, Phi Mu Alpha, the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, the Tennessee Bandmaster’s Association and the National Band Association.

The Maryville College Jazz Band is directed by composer, educator and pianist Dr. Bill Swann, who is also chair of the Maryville College Division of Fine Arts. The spring concert is scheduled for April 25, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts, Harold & Jean Lambert Recital Hall, on the Maryville College campus. The Orchestra at Maryville College, under the direction of Maestro Bill Robinson, will begin spring rehearsals for its 2012-13 concert season on Mon., Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre. A college and community ensemble, the Orchestra at Maryville College brings live symphonic performances to the public stage four times per season.
Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 7 until 9 p.m. (no rehearsal on Jan. 21) and will focus on preparation for a "Showcase of Area Artists" concert on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre, as well as a joint spring concert with the Maryville College Community Chorus on April 29, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., also in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre.
Robinson, who teaches orchestra at Coulter Grove Intermediate School in the Maryville City School system, is in his 7th season of conducting the Orchestra. After receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Robinson began his orchestral teaching career in the Maryville City Schools system in 1978. Under Robinson's leadership, the Maryville City Schools orchestra program has developed into a nationally recognized music program. In 2011, Robinson was recognized for this contribution and was honored by the Yale University School of Music as a Distinguished Music Educator. A former member of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, he continues to perform as a violinist throughout the community.
