About L&L at MC
We humans use language to understand others and to be understood ourselves. We write literature in order to express our loftiest goals and ideals, our deepest fears, and every aspect of life in between. So the study of language and literature, either in English or in a foreign language, is a superb pathway to understanding real people and to communicating well with them.
All the majors in the division – English, Spanish, Writing Communication, and Teaching English as a Second Language – sharpen students’ skills in interpreting and expressing ideas through carefully crafted language. In varying degrees, all nurture an awareness of culture and an understanding of differences of culture and worldview.
These majors make great preparation for careers as diverse as law, ministry, teaching, journalism, public relations, publishing, management, politics, social work, diplomacy, tourism, and labor relations. Simply put, studying in this division can prepare you well for any work involving interpreting texts, crafting the written word or interacting with people.
