Assistant Dean for Academic Success, Professor of Theatre

Dr. Heather McMahon has a Ph.D. in Theatre History, Literature, and Criticism from Indiana University; her doctoral degree is complemented by a minor in Gender Studies. She currently serves as coordinator of the Gender and Women’s Studies minor at Maryville College in addition to teaching Theatre Studies.

Dr. McMahon is co-coordinator of the Appalachian College Association’s Teaching and Learning Institute and she is on the Editorial Board of Ecumenica: Performance and Religion. She has served as President of the Tennessee Theatre Association and has presented workshops and papers at the Tennessee Theatre Association, the Appalachian College Association, Mid-America Theatre Conference, the Comparative Drama Conference, Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Theatre Symposium, and the American Society for Theatre Research.

Dr. McMahon has directed a wide variety of productions at Maryville College Theatre, including Romeo and Juliet9 to 5: The MusicalThe Laramie ProjectMetamorphosesSeussical the Musical, and Our Town.
