Visiting Lecturer in Art

Socrates said, “I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think”

I am an artist, business owner, and educator living in Knoxville, Tn with my wife, son and a daughter off at college. I was born in Auburn Al and grew up half in Alabama and half in Florida. I earned my undergraduate degree in Tampa, Fl at University of South Florida at a very conceptual based art program. I began as an art education/drawing and painting major and finished as a 3-d studio art major with a minor in Art history and was very happy for that. I worked for a little while for the University before starting graduate school at the University of Tennessee in a Masters in Studio Arts Ceramics program. I began teaching at a local clay studio before graduating and continued for a while when I graduated and continued on there with a studio. Soon after I also began teaching at a Roane State Community College with courses in Art Appreciation and Drawing, Later I was given the opportunity to teach at Walters State Community College teaching Art History Courses, Ceramics, Sculpture. While teaching at Walters I was able to purchase the Ceramics Studio where I work and have been running that for the last few years. Then in 2016 began teaching Ceramics and Sculpture here at Maryville College.

As a practicing artist I maintain a website www.barronart.net and a business web at www.mightymud.com More about my education and art is also available on my CV.
