Professor of Chemistry; Chair of the MC Core Curriculum

Mary Turner joined the faculty of Maryville College in the fall of 2003.  She completed her PH.D. at Rice University under the guidance of Dr. Vicki Colvin on the topic of nanostructured materials.  Dr. Turner currently teaches Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Introductory Chemistry.  She has also taught several courses in the Core curriculum related to science and society and the historical development of technology.

In 2014 Dr. Turner was named Chair of the Core curriculum.

Dr. Turner’s continuing research interests include effective chemical education and analytical methods for both research and industrial applications.

In her free time, Dr. Turner enjoys hiking and backpacking with her husband and children in the Smoky Mountains.
