Community Engagement for Students

Service is an integral part of the Maryville College experience and a major component of the College’s Statement of Purpose. Offering a variety of service opportunities provides students with a unique connection to our local, national, and global communities. Such a focus equips students with a vital perspective of civic engagement, community partnership, social responsibility, and many other life skills that will remain valuable after leaving Maryville College.

One way in which the committment to service is lived out on campus is through curricular integration.  This practice helps students to connect their service experience directly with their classroom learning.  This can be done through Service-Learning and Community Based Research projects - sometimes as a whole class and sometimes as independent studies.  Many senior thesis projects contain aspects of community based research.  Please visit the Community Engagement @ Maryville College resource to learn more about the different levels of engagement between the college and community.
