During the 2007-2008 academic year, Eric Etchison will enter his 18th year as an athletic staff member at Maryville College serving as the College’s first full-time Director of Sports Information.
Etchison concluded his 14th season as the Head Baseball Coach for the Scots in 2006. During his tenure, MC posted a 57% winning percentage with every school record being re-established. With the Scots resurgence, Coach Etchison was named Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association's 1997 Division II and III Coach of the Year.
Etchison is presently a member of the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and will serve his term until 2010. Etchison served a pair of seasons (2004, 2005) as the chair of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Selection Committee, served on the National Baseball Committee from 2002-2005, and is member in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association, the American Baseball Coaches Association, and College Sports Information Directors of America. Coach Etchison served six seasons as the ABCA All-South Region/All-American representative for the NCAA South Region. With 280 career wins at MC, he ranks second in all-time baseball coaching victories at the college.
Etchison has assisted in the administration of over 30 NCAA National Tournament events. As an NCAA liaison he helped direct four NCAA Division III baseball regional tournaments and four National NCAA Division III Baseball Championships. As a Sports Information Director, he has assisted in the development of four NCAA Division III Soccer regionals, ten NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball regionals, and eleven NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball regionals.
A native of Austintown, Ohio, Etchison was an All-Steel Valley performer on the 1983 Ohio State runner-up Austintown-Fitch High School Falcons. He went on to Maryville and became a four-year starter behind the plate for the Scots. Etchison's offensive skills earned him two All ODAC selections. His .390 career average also helped him earn team MVP honors on three occasions.
Etchison received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville in 1988 and his Master's of Sport Science from the United States Sports Academy in Sports Administration in 1991.
Coach Etchison and his wife, Bonnie and daughter DeAnna, reside in Maryville.
