Appalachian Therapy Center

We are fortunate to call Appalachian Therapy Center (ATC) our team physical therapists. Joe Black – PT, ATC, SCS – founded Appalachian Therapy Center. Joe has been involved with Maryville College athletics since his arrival in Maryville in 1981. Under his guidance, ATC has become the recognized leader in the region for the delivery of athletic health care services. ATC means world-class treatment, great facilities, great equipment, and great personnel. ATC and Maryville College athletic trainers work together to provide athletic training services to local Blount County schools. These include coverage of all high school games, weekly high school visits to check athletic injuries, and a Saturday morning clinic during football season at Maryville College. We coordinate the pre-season physicals, which are provided at no charge to every high school athlete in Blount County. Through our work with the local physicians, these athletes receive a top quality physical that prepares them for the upcoming season.

Appalachian Therapy Center provides to the local high schools a student athletic trainer program. Each year, students are selected by local high school coaches and athletic directors to serve as student trainers for their respective high school. They attend a student trainer camp that is held at Maryville College each summer. The camp is directed by the Maryville College athletic training staff and provides the student with the basics of injury care. Including in the camp is certification in First Aid, CPR, and basic injury care and prevention. If you are interested in becoming and Appalachian Therapy Center Student Trainer, contact your school's athletic director, or e-mail Sharon Wood at wood@maryvillecollege.edu.
