Team Physicians

W. Ken Bell, MD

Ken Bell has guided the Maryville College medical staff since 1982. Under his guidance, our sports medicine program has grown into one of the finest in Division III. A native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Ken received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis in 1976. He completed his orthopaedic residency in 1981 at the Willis C. Campbell Clinic/University of Tennessee in Memphis. He has been in private practice with Maryville Orthopaedic Clinic since 1982.

Dr. Bell is board-certified as an orthopaedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons since 1984. He has special interests in sports medicine, joint replacement surgery, and wilderness medicine. Dr. Bell has been actively involved in leadership roles with Blount Memorial Hospital and the Maryville community. He served on the Maryville City School Board for eight years, serving as Chairman of the Board for four of those years. Dr. Bell also served on the Maryville City Council for four years. He is currently a committee member for Blount County Young Life.

Dr. Bell and his wife Patty reside in Maryville. They have four sons, including Andy Bell, who is a graduate of Maryville College's class of 1999.

Dr. Bell also serves as the Medical Director of the Maryville College Mountain Challenge program. Some of his personal interests include traveling, hiking, biking, triathlons, and marathons.

Dr. Bell was inducted into the MC Wall of Fame in 2006.

Eric Morgan, MD

Eric Morgan has been an invaluable addition to the Maryville College medical team. Dr. Morgan is a graduate of Marshall University, where he played offensive line on the Thundering Herd Football Team. He graduated from the medical school at Marshall, then completed a five-year residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Following his residency, he completed a trauma fellowship and a sports medicine fellowship at Grant Medical Center in Ohio. He has added a wealth of knowledge to our sports medicine team since joining our program in 1998. Dr. Morgan is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a specialist in shoulder surgery and sports medicine.

Dr. Morgan, his wife Tonja, and their two children live in Maryville. Dr. Morgan also serves as the team physician for Heritage High School. In his free time, Dr. Morgan enjoys fishing, hunting, scuba diving, backpacking, guitar, and photography.

Russell Gibson, MD

Dr. Russell Gibson is a graduate of Maryville College (class of '82) and Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He has served as our team physician since his return to Maryville in 1989. Dr. Gibson's role in our sports medicine program is to guide us in the general health care of our athletes.

Dr. Gibson is board-certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He also holds certification in NBME part I - II, FAA Aviation Medical Exam, and as a Medical Review Officer.

Dr. Gibson is married to the former Kay Lippincott, and they have three children. The Gibsons live in Maryville. Dr. Gibson is in private practice at 129 Montgomery Lane, Maryville.
