Staff Trainers

Sharon Wood, MS, ATC, EMT-IV

In 1987, Sharon Wood returned to Maryville College as our Head Athletic Trainer. The job of coordinating our sports medicine program has been in good hands ever since. Sharon graduated from Maryville College in 1983 with a degree in physical education. At Maryville College, she was the captain of the tennis team and the first recipient of our Carl H. Black Student Trainer of the Year Award. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology. She is licensed in Tennessee as an Athletic Trainer and Emergency Medical Technician-IV.

During her tenure at Maryville College, Sharon has maintained an excellent student trainer program. As our athletic program has grown, our athletic trainers have been there to prevent, evaluate, and treat every athletic injury. While at Maryville College, Sharon had the opportunity to work with some of the world's finest athletes as a volunteer athletic trainer for the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 and at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in 1997 and 2000. In 2000, she was chosen as the athletic trainer for USA Basketball's College Select Team, which traveled to Taiwan to play in the William R. Jones Cup. In 1998, the Tennessee Athletic Trainers Society chose her as the College Athletic Trainer of the Year. In 1999, she was awarded the Outstanding Administrator at Maryville College. In 2000, she was inducted into the Maryville College Athletic Wall of Fame.

Sharon is an adjunct instructor for Maryville College in the PHR department. She is also an instructor trainer for the American Red Cross in CPR and First Aid. Sharon has served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Appalachian Therapy Center (ATC) since 1987. She directs the ATC Student Athletic Trainer program and runs its summer student athletic trainer camp.

Sara Peatross, ATC, MS, Assistant Athletic Trainer

Sara PeatrossSara Peatross begins her second season in 2008-09 with the Maryville College Athletic Training staff under the direction of Sharon Wood.

Sara is a 2005 graduate of St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She attained her NATA certification in 2007 at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga while attaining a Masters degree in Health and Human Performance with special emphasis in Athletic Training.

Sara has gained a variety of experience working with numerous sports at UTC and St.Cloud.

Terra Davenport, MS, ATC/L

Terra Davenport comes to Maryville College after having served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Tennessee at Martin for three years.  Davenport received her bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance in 2004 followed by a Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Science in 2006 at UTM.  While working on her graduate degree, Davenport served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for UTM, covering women’s volleyball, tennis, and baseball.  After joining the UTM staff full time in 2005, Davenport served as the women’s soccer and softball athletic trainer.  Terra has served as an instructor for UTM’s Athletic Training Education Program, completed an internship with Vanderbilt Sports Medicine, and served as the head athletic trainer for DePaul’s Doug Bruno’s basketball camps.
