Men's Soccer - October 31, 2009
Maryville College Sports Information
The Maryville College men’s soccer program traveled to Athens today to take on Tennessee Wesleyan College. The Scots wasted little time in defeating the Bulldogs by a score of 6-1.
The Scots (11-2-3, 5-0-1) scored three goals in the first half of play to take control on the game. Geoff Joseph scored Maryville’s first goal when the team was awarded a free kick. The tally was Joseph’s first goal of the 2010 season. Ben Lawson gave Maryville a two goal advantage when he deposited the ball into the back of the net. Maryville’s third goal of the first half came off the foot of Jake Holt. Holt now has three goals on the year.
The Bulldogs cut the Scots lead down to 3-1 with a goal of their own early in the second half. Maryville responded with three more goals to finish off Tennessee Wesleyan on their home field. The goals were recorded by Travis Bolton, Ben Lawson, and Kyle McClung. Lawson’s two goals in the game now give him eight on the campaign.
The Scots return to action on Friday when they host the Great South Conference Tournament. The Scots will take on either LaGrange or Huntingdon.
