The Great South Athletic Conference has announced the post season awards for the 2009 men’s soccer season. The Maryville College men’s soccer program was once again well represented in several categories.
Head Coach Pepe Fernandez was named the 2009 Great South Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Fernandez led the Scots to a record of 11-2-3 and a 5-0-1 mark in conference.
Maryville had seven players named to the All-Conference team. The players selected were sophomore Brian Beckham, sophomore Travis Bolton, senior Daniel Gomez, senior Ben Lawson, senior Jack Sowell, junior Bryan Walker, and sophomore Tom Webster.
Also, Midfielder Tony Diaz was the lone Scot added to the 2009 All-Freshman team and he was named the GSAC Co-Freshman of the Year.
The Scots were also well represented on the Great South All-Academic team with 13 individuals selected. This group includes Hunter Acosta, Travis Bolton, Ridge Carter, Daniel Gomez, Jake Holt, Robert Hudson, David Large, Ben Lawson, Chris Metts, Ryan Radcliffe, Jack Sowell, Tom Webster, and Cory Willis.
