The Maryville College women’s soccer program opened up play in the Great South Conference Tournament on Friday when they hosted Huntingdon College. The Scots were able to fight off the Hawks to reach the Championship game by a score of 3-2.
The Scots (12-2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when sophomore Tom Webster found the back of the net. The goal was Webster’s ninth goal on the 2009 campaign.
Maryville took a two goal advantage just five minutes into the second half when Ben Lawson scored his ninth goal of the season.
The Hawks got on the board in the 69th minute and tied the game with only eight minutes remaining in regulation. Yet, Maryville answered back in the 86th minute when Travis Bolton added his name to the score sheet. The tally was Bolton’s seventh on the season, and the Scots won the contest by a score of 3-2.
The win propels Maryville into the GSAC Championship game on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm.
