MC Ultimate was founded in the fall of 2005, when a handful of students formally organized the lovers of the disc in the MC community for the first time and created the first competitive team. The MC Ultimate team is a member of the Ultimate Player’s Association (http://www.upa.org), the national governing body of the sport of Ultimate. Since its establishment, the team has grown exponentially, becoming a recognizable fixture of the greater College community. The MC Ultimate team has commonly competed against and won over large state universities, showing great promise. The team operates as a club sport on campus seeking to develop a passion for the sport, and striving to balance our pure enjoyment of the game with our desire to become a recognizable force on the national Ultimate scene.
The Scots compete in an average of six UPA sanctioned tournaments a year, two of which are hosted on campus. The team travels throughout the Southeastern US, camping when weather permits and treating the team to hotel stays when the weather is fowl. During the two-semester season, we hold two competitive practices a week and play two pick-up games each week as well.
The MC Ultimate team has a faculty advisor who handles logistics, tournament organization, and other miscellaneous administrative duties. Coaching is left up to the team and its co-captains. Cultivating teamwork and friendship among players is paramount to the MC Ultimate program, and in consideration of this goal, each semester the team takes a retreat, generally to venues such as mountain cabins, to boost team moral and allow players to relax among one another outside of the constraints of the game and school.
