Maryville College Football has a rich tradition dating back to the 1892 season. Honaker field has been host to over 46 All-Americans including 2009 All-American linebacker Kyle Chewning. The Scots played in the inaugural Tangerine Bowl (Today's Citrus Bowl) in 1947.

The Fighting Scots’ program is under the leadership of seventh-year head coach and Maryville College alum (1980) Tony Ierulli.

The Scots are a member of the USA South Athletic Conference which includes seven other NCAA Division III institutions; North Carolina Wesleyan College, Averett College, Greensboro College, Ferrum College, Shenandoah University, Christopher Newport University, and Methodist College.

The Scots finished the 2009 campaign with a 4-6 record and a 3-4 finish in the USA South Conference. MC claimed eleven All-Conference performers and set several team and individual records.

Lloyd L. Thornton Stadium continues to see thousands of fans each season. Maryville continually ranks in the top ten percent nationally in attendance within the NCAA Division III.
