Maryville College has a lot to look forward to on this year’s men’s and women’s cross country teams.  Five freshmen will join a men’s team that lost only one scorer. “We are already one of the deepest and fastest teams MC has seen in the past years, now it’s about pushing each other and finding our rhythm as a team,” said Coach Tyson Murphy. The team will be led by returning junior and MC record holder at the 8k distance, Travis Wilson, who will serve as the up pace setter and voice of experience for the Scots. The women’s side is also likely to upset a few teams this season as rising Junior Sarah McGinnis returns to improve on her ever decreasing 5k and 6k personal bests. The women’s squad will be joined by three freshmen, all of whom have been working hard over the summer and during our first week of practice.

Coach Murphy had this to say about the upcoming season:

“Both the men and women of Maryville College cross country will be able to celebrate more individual and team success than in past years. Overall we have a tradition of competing for top honors in the Great South Athletic Conference, but in the past two years have had to operate with less depth and upfront speed. This year on both sides of the line, I expect great things.  We have most of both teams back and they are joined by some young runners guaranteed to push pace as Maryville prepares to finish on top as we enter our last year in the GSAC conference.”
