The Maryville College men and women harriers began pre-season action at the Lee University Invitational on Saturday, August 29th. Following a light rain on a hot and hilly course, the Scots women finished fourth only ten points behind Belhaven University. The men also posted a fourth place finish, training Belhaven by only three points.

Sophomore Sarah McGinnis paced MC in the women’s 5K with 11th place finish overall. Travis Wilson, 2009 GSAC Freshman runner of the year, returned for his sophomore campaign and finished 8th overall in the men’s 8K competition.

Head Coach Tyson Murphy had this to say about his squad’s pre-season experience. “It was a tough race to start the season since we have not been together long as a team, but we learned what we needed to be better as individuals and as a unit. We know we need to work on our strength up tough hills and spend training time working on our endurance.”

Murphy’s Scots will open the season on September 10th at the Johnson Bible College Invitational in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee.
