Khym founded the Maryville College Equestrian Club in the Spring of 1994, while a student at Maryville College. She graduated from Maryville College with a BA in Biology and went on to earn a JD from the University of Tennessee.

Khym grew up around horses all of her life. She began showing at hunter/jumper shows with much success. She continues to show and currently plays polo with the Sassafras Polo Club.
