MC's Post Play Stumps Spelman 79-50

The Maryville College women’s basketball team swept their Great South challenges this weekend with a 79-50 win over GSAC foe Spelman College on Sunday afternoon.
MC junior post standout Tayler Smith went 9-for-10 from the field and the Scots issued 20 assists on 31 baskets to push past the Jaguars.
Maryville shot 50% in the first half and followed the half with a 54% effort. The Scots deposited 44 points in the paint and turned 26 Spelman turnovers into 37 points. MC’s defense held the Jaguars to a 36% shooting clip.
Spelman (5-12, 4-8 GSAC) was led by Shanda Kennedy’s 15 points while Jasmine Taylor added 13 points.
Smith’s 18 points paced Maryville (14-6, 10-1 GSAC). Kiera Payne went 7-for-10 from the field for 15 points while Donja Robbins finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Kelsey Brown was strong in the post with eight points and five rebounds. Janell Menard had a complete game with nine points, four assists, and four rebounds while Alex Bond was unselfish at the guard position dishing out six assists.
The Scots will take to the road next Wednesday to challenge GSAC rival Agnes Scott College in Atlanta. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. MC will celebrate “Senior Day” on Saturday, February 11th. Make plans to attend the Great South double header as MC will host Piedmont College.
