Raul Placeres, a 2006 Maryville College graduate, brings a wealth of experience to the Scots men’s basketball staff. Placeres, a translator in the Sevier County school system, will join Coach Lambert’s staff in 2011-2012 as a part-time assistant.

As a player this Miami native led Keystone Junior College to an “Elite 8” and “Final Four” appearance in the NJCAA following his freshman and sophomore campaigns. This junior scoring point guard paced Maryville College in assists and led the Scots to a 23-6 record and an NCAA “Sweet Sixteen” finish. Following his senior season in the orange and garnet he earned his second consecutive All-Great South Athletic conference accolade while breaking the school record for assists in a game with 17 dishes against Oglethorpe University.

Upon graduation, Raul played in the prestigious Rocky Top Basketball League and signed professionally to play with the Knoxville Thunderbolts and Smoky Mountain Jam of the ABA.

Placeres began his coaching career in 2005-2006 while finishing his MC degree. He helped the Scots to a 24-6 mark, a league championship and a top 25 national ranking. From 2006-2011 Coach Placeres developed the Gatlinburg Pittman High School basketball program into one of the top programs in the state of Tennessee. Before his arrival, the Highlanders won a total of 28 games in four seasons. From 2008-2011, when Placeres was named the head coach, G-P went 80-40. This three-time Sevier County “Coach of the Year” developed a pair of McDonald’s All-American nominees and sent seven players with collegiate scholarships to the next level during his tenure.

On Coach Lambert's Maryville staff Placeres will serve as the lead varsity assistant and will coordinate all program recruiting and scouting efforts. He will assist Coach Lambert in designing game plans as well as post-game analysis. Coach Placeres will also serve as the Director of the Maryville College Basketball Summer Team Camp.
