The Maryville College softball program is recognized by players, coaches, and fans as one of the finest and most successful NCAA Division III collegiate programs in the South.

The Scots softball program produced five Academic All-Conference, five All-Conference, and a pair of All-Freshman Team selections following the 2009 campaign. The Scots finished the final NCAA Division III rankings 9th nationally in double plays per game while finishing within the top third of all 390 Division III softball programs in batting average, fielding percentage, scoring, triples per game, and stolen bases per game. Maryville captured the Great South Athletic Conference regular season title with an 11-1 record after leading the league in batting average, fielding percentage, slugging percentage, runs batted in, doubles, triples, and double plays.

The 2010 Scots softball team, under the direction of first-year head coach Kim Woodard, is looking to emulate and surpass last season’s squad that finished the 2009 season 21-15. The Scots return eleven players from last year’s roster and have added five newcomers for the upcoming season. This year the Scots will graduate four seniors that will play a big role in the outcome of the ’10 season.
MC’s Scots have a very tough schedule this season opening up at home against Tennessee Wesleyan, a strong scholarship program and then travel to Atlanta to challenge for the Emory University Invitational tournament title.

“We believe that playing the best competition will only help us down the line in our GSAC Tournament,” stated Coach Woodard. “This team is very unique in that every student athlete has a chance to contribute to the team’s success.”

“With this being my first year at Maryville College, I plan to continue the winning tradition that the program has established,” stated Coach Woodard. “I have seen the strong willed champions that come from this program and I look forward to working with these girls. I am very proud of how well they worked in the fall and feel that they are determined to work hard in the off season to become champions in the spring.”
MC boasts a GSAC Softball title following the 2002 season while being invited to the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2002 and 2007.

The MC softball program and coaching staff is structured and committed to teaching and developing individual skills and techniques so that a player may advance in softball as far as her desire, potential and ability permit. As with the student's academic endeavors, the goal is excellence, in individual as well as team performance. Over the years, many Maryville players have received All-South Region and All-Great South Athletic Conference honors. The majority of graduates pursue careers in medicine, business, and education. Our reputation clearly demonstrates the Scots players' love, interest and respect for the game. A large number of former Maryville players have stayed in the game as college and high school coaches.

To maintain a consistently competitive program, the coaching staff is dedicated to continuously searching for and recruiting top scholar-athletes who seek a rigorous academic education and a top-notch instructional and challenging softball program. The primary goal of all Maryville student-athletes is to obtain a first-class academic education and a Maryville College degree.
