Scots fall to Hawks in GSAC Softball Finals

The Maryville College softball team attempted to force a pair of games on Sunday to determine the 2012 Great South champion, but No.1 seed Huntingdon College needed only three tournament games and three wins to claim their fourth league softball title and first crown since the 2006 season by defeating the Scots 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Maryville College's Brittany Henry threw three consecutive complete games and close to 300 pitches to help the Scots advance through the GSAC softball tournament loser's bracket on Saturday. With Huntingdon in the driver's seat alone in the winner's bracket, Maryville earned an opportunity to play the No.1 seed for the championship on Sunday by knocking off LaGrange, Salem, and Piedmont.

The top seeded Huntingdon College Hawks and the Piedmont College Lions remained in the winner's bracket following day one of the Great South Athletic Conference Softball Tournament hosted by Maryville College on Friday.

DECATUR, Ga.- The Great South Athletic Conference has released its 2012 softball conference awards with the top individual honors being split between Huntingdon and Maryville College. Pitcher, Player and Coach of the Year were all claimed by the Hawks while the Scots nab Freshman of the Year honors.

The Maryville College Department of Athletics is set to host the 2012 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament on April 27-29 on the campus' softball complex. The Scots, coach by Kim Woodard, enter this season's tournament ad the No. 3 league seed with a 10-6 conference mark.
