Scots sweep Sewanee to begin 2010 campaign

MARYVILLE, TENN.-The 2010 version of the Maryville College Volleyball team looked to use last season’s successful 30-6 foundation to build on their strong push towards their 9th Great South Athletic Conference title since 2000 and gain their 10th selection to the NCAA post season tournament.
Head Coach Kandis Schram, beginning her 25th year directing the MC volleyball program, has seen her Scots capture ten consecutive matches against the visiting Lady Tigers of The University of the South. Since 2000, Sewanee has only been able to claim a pair of sets against the mighty orange and garnet attack.
A key concern of Coach Schram in 2010 was to replace the athleticism and complete game of two-time GSAC Player of the Year Lindsy Little. Little’s collective skills to pace the Scots in digs, kills, and blocks would have to be replaced by a host of players this season.
The 2010 squad, consisting of no seniors, relied on sophomore setter Teri Lind to direct a very efficient offense to a 3-0 sweep over the Tigers by the scores of 25-7, 25-7, 25-11. Lind posted 22 assists while setting up Kara Strickland and Kristin Findley for eight kills each. Strickland and Katherine Nadler paced the defensive effort posting 11 and 12 digs respectively. Findley and Lind punctuated their inaugural effort of the season with five service aces each. Collectively, thirteen Scots gained valuable experience during the first match of the season.
Maryville (1-0) will host one of the most competitive NCAA Division III tournaments this season beginning on Saturday, September 4th. The Scots will host Southwestern (TX), Emory, Lynchburg, and Mount St. Joseph in MC’s Cooper Athletic Center. The schedule includes:
