The Residence Life Staff works to create a fun and supportive environment in each residence hall. They are the people who live and work with students in residence halls every day, 24/7.

Resident Assistants (RAs): RAs are student-staff members who are assigned to each floor or quad of rooms. They plan activities, help with residential issues that arise, interpret College policy as it pertains to the floor community and assist the professional staff with the coordination and organization of the residence halls’ activities.

Resident Directors (RDs): RDs are full-time professional staff members who oversee one or two residence halls. These staff members live in the residence hall and supervise the RA staff of the building in which they reside. These staff members also serve as the 24/7 Staff Member on Duty (SMOD). These individuals have already earned a bachelor’s degree, and usually have previous Residence Life experience. Each RD role is also partnered with one of the below Coordinator or Assistant Director roles.

Some current themed communities in our residence halls include Global & Community Engagement Scholars, Scots Science Scholars, and SCORE!.

Assistant Director (AD) for Housing Operations: The AD for Housing Operations is an RD whose role is coupled with the function of managing all residential spaces and rooms on campus. This person facilitates room selection in the spring, assignment spaces to new students, room change requests, and summer housing assignments & billing.

Assistant Director (AD) for Residential Involvement: The AD for Residential Involvement is an RD whose role is coupled with the function of enhancing the experience of residential students through residential programming efforts & initiatives, RA staff development, and assessment of the Residence Life Office.

Director of Residence Life: The Director of Residence Life is a full-time staff member whose primary function is to oversee the daily operations of the Residence Life office through supervision of RDs, Coordinators, and ADs. The Director also serves as another resource available to students for any needs related to Residence Life.

What’s Going On?

Throughout the year, each Residence Hall hosts a myriad of educational and social programs and activities in which on-campus students can participate. These programs range from simple social gatherings to workdays building a Habitat for Humanity house. Students typically find themselves just as busy outside of class as they are in the classroom and with their scholarly endeavors. By taking part in student organizations, intramurals, community worship, Mountain Challenge, fine art productions, community service and more, students always have something happening in their lives.
