The division of fine arts at Maryville College is hosting a regional Scholastic Art Show and Awards Ceremony in the newly-constructed Clayton Center for the Arts.
The gallery viewing and reception will begin at 1:30 p.m., Sun., Feb. 7 in the three galleries located in the two buildings of the complex. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Foyer.
The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers' Scholastic Art Competition is a regional competition for high school and middle school students in East Tennessee. Works were submitted from students representing six of the 11 counties in areas as diverse as painting, sculpture, design photography, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, digital, fashion, jewelry and architecture.
A panel of six distinguished artists, art historians and art administrators served as judges, selecting 130 of the nearly 600 entries for the exhibition, which is open through Feb. 28. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. Five of the top-rated works will receive the "American Visions Award" distinction.
