MC professors and students schedule presentation on trip to Vietnam

Maryville College students and professors and community members who recently returned from a two-week tour of Vietnam will present a program of photos, music and stories that describe their learning experiences and adventures abroad.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m., April 1, in Sutton Science Center (room 231) on the Maryville College campus.

The January trip, two years in the organizing, included stops in Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. The group of students, professors and community members took in the history, culture and psychology of Vietnam. They heard various presentations by faculty and students at three universities in Hanoi – presentations that ranged in topic from traditional Vietnamese music to the American War.

“ It has been one of my most memorable life experiences to date,” said Dr. Kathie Shiba, Maryville College associate professor of psychology and one of the organizers of the trip. “It was a remarkable trip – almost like a dream. I had the best time.”

People who are interested in traveling to Vietnam with a group of Maryville College students and professors during January 2004 are encouraged to attend the April 1 presentation.
