John C. Trotter of Knoxville was recognized with Maryville College’s Kin Takahashi Award for Young Alumni during the College’s Alumni Reception and Awards Ceremony held Oct. 23 on campus.
Established in 1998, the Kin Takahashi Award is given to an alumnus or alumna who has, within 15 years of his or her graduation of Maryville College, lived a life characteristic of College legend Kin Takahashi, who, in his 36 years of living, worked tirelessly for the betterment of his alma mater, his church and his society.
Trotter, son of Brenda Wood and the late Dr. Charles E. Trotter (a 1951 Maryville College graduate), enrolled at the College in 1991 having already started and operated a couple of small, successful businesses. He majored in management and earned his undergraduate degree in 1995.
He went to work, full-time, for Wood Properties, Inc., and quickly advanced in the company, becoming a commercial sales agent and then commercial real estate broker. In 2001, he left Wood Properties to launch Trotter Incorporated, a commercial real estate service group that specializes in brokerage, management, development and investment. Today, the business’ headquarters are located in downtown Knoxville. Another office is located in Nashville.
A commitment to his alma mater remains strong. Trotter served on the Alumni Board from 2004 until 2007 and is a member of the College’s Calvin Duncan Society and President’s Circle.
