MC observes Easter with annual Sunrise Service
March 22, 2002
Maryville College's annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held on Lloyd Beach March 31 at 6:30 a.m. The Rev. Anne D. McKee, Maryville College Campus Minister, will deliver the sermon entitled "Real-Time Resurrection."
"The Gospels tell us that early on Sunday morning, Jesus' disciples rose at dawn to visit His tomb," McKee said. "Instead of death, they found Him alive, and received the gift of new life, as well. As His followers, we rise early on Easter morning as they did, to tell the news of resurrection, and to worship Him."
During the service, keyboard accompaniment will be provided by MC student Marissa McInnis.
Lloyd Beach is located on the southeastern end of the campus (behind the Margaret Bell Lloyd Residence Hall) and offers a spectacular view of the sun rising over the Chilhowee Mountains. The service is casual, and attendees who are not able to stand during the service are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
"It is a blessing to worship on Easter morning with a broad community of people from various churches, and in a place where we can imagine the beauty of the garden, looking out over the mountains," the campus minister added. "We invite everyone to join us."
Following the service, coffee and pastries will be served in Willard House.
(In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Center for Campus Ministry.)
