Graduation 2003 Information
Services and Ceremonies
Graduation exercises for the Class of 2003 will be held at 6 p.m., May 18, on the lawn between Anderson Hall and Sutton Science Center. In case of inclement weather, Commencement will be moved to Boydson Baird Gymnasium in the Cooper Athletic Center. (The decision to move inside will be announced at Baccalaureate.)
Baccalaureate services are planned for 2 p.m., May 18, in Wilson Chapel.
Brother Jimmy Wayne Gray, father of graduating senior Lois Gray, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon. Dr. John Churchill, secretary of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, will give the commencement address.
Rites and Practices
The Class of 2003 will hold graduation rehearsal at 6:30 p.m., May 8 in Wilson Chapel. Seniors who are marching are encouraged to bring a pen or pencil.
The annual Senior Rite of Passage is scheduled for 1-3 p.m., May 15, in the first-floor lobby area of Fayerweather Hall. It is very important for seniors graduating in May or summer 2003 to participate. Sponsored by the offices of Student Development and Alumni and Parents Programs, Senior Rite of Passage is a time when graduates can complete withdrawal requirements, receive their senior gift from the Alumni Association and enjoy fellowship and refreshments. Celebrations and Competitions
Graduating seniors, the College’s faculty and staff members, and members of the College’s Alumni Board are invited to the annual Senior Barbecue, scheduled for 12 p.m., May 16, on the lawn of Pearsons Hall. Sponsored by the College’s Alumni Association, the barbecue means great food, refreshing beverages and memorable times with friends. The seventh-annual Graduation Celebration for graduating seniors and their parents will be held at 8 p.m., May 17, on the campus lawn. Sponsored by Student Development and the Parents Association, the event is held to honor the Class of 2003 and their parents. Dress is dressy-casual. Invitations have been sent out, and reservations should be made to 865.981.8213, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The annual Blount County Alumni Association Golf Tournament will be held Friday, May 16, at Lambert Acres Golf Course. Tee time is 1:30 p.m., and the cost is $25 per person. Following the tournament there will be a barbeque dinner catered by Calhoun’s for an additional cost of $15 per person. Photos and Mementos
N-Sinc Photographics of Knoxville will be taking photos of graduating seniors at Commencement. Photos available for purchase include shots of individual graduates receiving their diplomas from the president and a photo of the entire Class of 2003. Pre-ordering is not necessary. Proofs of the photos can be viewed online at www.orderpicture.com. N-Sinc offers three packages ranging in price from $12 to $20. Photographers can be contacted by calling 865.546.0977.
