Eight choirs to perform in Feb. 23 music festival

The Maryville College Division of Fine Arts will host a Choral Music Festival at 7 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 23, in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre of the Clayton Center for the Arts.

The event is free and open to the public.

Several choirs will be making their debut at the Clayton Center for the Arts. Participating in the festival for the first time will be area collegiate choral ensembles from Hiwassee College, Roane State Community College and Pellissippi State Community College, under the direction of Alan Eleazer, Brenda Luggie and Bill Brewer, respectively.

Two high school ensembles from Knox County will also be guests at the festival. Bearden High School, directed by Mary Sexton, and Karns High School, directed by Caryn Marlowe, will perform.

Also included on the program will be the Highlander Chorale, a community high school choir based at Maryville College, under the direction of Jill Purvis. The festival will end with performances by the Maryville College Concert Choir and vocal ensemble Off Kilter.

All participants, their friends and families are invited to attend a reception in the William Baxter Lee III Grand Foyer immediately following the performances. Information about Maryville College and its fine arts programs will be available.
