Maryville College’s Voices of Praise (VOP) Scholarship Concert and Worship Service featuring gospel artist Donnie McClurkin, which was scheduled for March 3, has been cancelled.
“Unfortunately, Pastor McClurkin has cancelled his appearance at this event,” said Larry Ervin, director of the VOP gospel choir and the College’s multicultural affairs office.
Proceeds from the sale of tickets to the March 3 concert and worship service were going to be used to establish an endowed scholarship for choir members. The event also was organized to celebrate VOP’s 20-year anniversary. Current and former VOP members had been invited to gather for a special reunion the evening of March 2.
Ervin said the scholarship concert and reunion were being postponed, explaining that he and other college administrators would work to find a time later this year to celebrate the milestone and invite other popular gospel musicians to minister and perform.
“It is still my prayer that a scholarship will be established that will support the ministerial and educational value of VOP,” Ervin said. “VOP has reflected the core values of Maryville College for 20 years, and I would love for this choir to continue for as long as the College continues.”
People who wish to contribute to the scholarship fund should contact Ervin at 865.981.8222 or email@example.com. Those who purchased tickets will receive a refund.
