Maryville College’s annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held on Sun., March 31 at 7 a.m. on Lloyd Beach.
The Rev. Dr. Anne D. McKee, campus minister, will deliver the sermon titled “Stone on Stone.”
Scripture for the sermon will be the Easter story.
A pianist and other musicians will lead the music during the worship service, which is open to community members.
Lloyd Beach is located behind Lloyd Hall, on the southeastern end of the campus, and offers a spectacular view of the sun rising over the Chilhowee Mountains. The service is casual, and attendees who are not able to stand during the service are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
“The Easter Sunrise service provides a wonderful opportunity to gather with people across the Maryville/Alcoa community, on a day that binds Christians together, in sharing the good news of resurrection,” McKee said. “As the sun comes up over the mountains, and we say again, ‘Alleluia! Christ is Risen,’ we experience a kind of unity and gratitude that builds relationships all year long."
All are invited to enjoy a continental breakfast and conversation on the steps of Willard House following the service.
In the event of rain, both the service and the breakfast will be held in the Samuel Tyndale Wilson Center for Campus Ministry (CCM).
