Maryville College and Edamerica sign scholarship agreement
February 22, 2003
Student loan provider Edamerica and its secondary market Edsouth recently signed a grant agreement with Maryville College to establish the Edscholar Scholarship Program at the College.
“ It is our pleasure to support outstanding schools like Maryville College and enhance their efforts to recruit and retain Tennessee’s best and brightest students,” said Edscholar Program Director Tommy Schumpert.
Designed to recognize and reward outstanding students seeking a post-secondary education in Tennessee, Edscholar provides funds to schools for tuition and other educational expenses for qualified incoming freshmen at eligible colleges and universities.
High school students from Tennessee are encouraged to apply for the scholarship at Maryville College if they have a GPA of 3.25 or greater after seven semesters and score a minimum composite ACT score of 23 or a minimum SAT-I score of 1070. A selection committee appointed by Maryville College makes the selection of scholarship recipients.
According to Maryville College Vice President for Admissions Ned Willard, the Edscholar scholarship is worth $6,250 annually and renewable for four years.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with Edamerica to provide scholarships for deserving students,” Willard said. “This agreement helps both the College and Edamerica toward their shared goals of educating students who will make a difference in this community.”
The Edscholar program was unveiled in Tennessee last October, and is expected to provide approximately 186 individual scholarships to students at 57 different schools across Tennessee for the 2003-2004 academic year. Total investment in scholarships is expected to top $3 million.
