Meet the 2003 Outstanding Seniors

On April 12, Maryville College honored five of its best students when faculty members introduced finalists for the Outstanding Senior Award at the College’s annual Academic Awards Ceremony.

Established by the Maryville College Alumni Association in 1974, the Outstanding Senior Award recognizes those students “whose overall record of academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities stands out as most exemplary.”

Finalists for the 2003 award included three young women and two young men: Amanda Baker, Preston Fields, Rachael Garza, Lois Gray and Ben Wicker.

Baker was named the winner of the award but, in the words of Dr. Robert Naylor, vice president and dean, the selection process was “especially difficult.”

“ Each nominee is truly outstanding – each outstanding in ways that are different from the others,” he said at the ceremony. “Indeed, each nominee is deserving of being selected as the final recipient.”
