Aquatic programs begin at MC

Maryville College administrators recently announced the start of two new aquatic programs that are open to the general public and the College community. All swimming and instruction takes place in the large indoor pool located in the College’s Cooper Athletic Center.
In “Swim for Fitness,” three lap swimming programs are offered for different levels of lap swimming with three lanes designated for advanced/master level swimmers. All ages are welcome. Swimmers must adhere to circle swimming and lane sharing if overcrowding becomes an issue.
For $55 per semester or $20 per month, participants in the “Bronze” level can swim every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday of the semester from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m.
Participants in the “Silver” level can swim between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday and from noon until 2 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday of the semester. Cost for the Silver program is $70 per semester or $25 per month.
Participants in the “Gold” level will have access to the pool from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m., every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday; from noon until 2 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday; and from 6:30 until 7:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Prices for gold-level membership is $90 per semester or $30 per month.
Starting Sept. 13,Dan Rule, a USS swim coach, is available for workouts, stroke development and feedback for members of the College’s Master Swim Club. Those interested in organized workouts and possible competition are encouraged to sign up for this program, which is available only for swimmers aged 18 and older. Cost is $120 per semester or $40 per month.
Rule will be available every Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30-7:30 a.m. and every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Members of the Master Swim Club also have additional lap time available from noon until 2 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday.
Red Cross-certified lifeguards will be on duty at all swim times.
Maryville College students, faculty and staff members have pool privileges without cost and are able to attend these programs free of charge.
Maryville College alumni are offered discounted rates for the semester: $27.50 for the bronze program; $35 for the silver level; and $45 for swimming in the gold program. Cost for the Master Swim Club for alumni is $100 per semester.
Water aerobics continue to be taught in the College’s pool, 5:30-6:30 p.m., every Monday and Wednesday. Cost is $2.50 per person, per class.
