Maryville College’s annual Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6:45 a.m., April 16, on Lloyd Beach. The Rev. Anne D. McKee, campus minister, will deliver the sermon entitled “Face to Face in the Garden.” A group of brass musicians will play for the service.

Scripture for the sermon will be the Easter story, as told in John 20:1-18. Community members are invited to the worship service.

Lloyd Beach is located behind Lloyd Hall, on the southeastern end of the campus, and offers a spectacular view of the sun rising over the Chilhowee Mountains. The service is casual, and attendees who are not able to stand during the service are encouraged to bring lawn chair and blankets.

“As we celebrate Easter, the highest holiday of the Christian year, it is wonderful to gather with individuals from all over the surrounding community,” the campus minister said. “I love celebrating with people from many different Christian denominations on a morning that symbolizes our Savior’s resurrection.”

A light breakfast will be served on the steps of Willard House following the service. (In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Center for Campus Ministry.)
