“Phase II” of Maryville College’s readership survey has launched, and alumni for whom the College has email addresses will soon be receiving messages with a link to the online survey, according to Karen Eldridge, the College’s director of communications.

More than 200 alumni will be contacted by phone.

Focused on readership of alumni publications and the forms of information alumni prefer to receive about the College, the research began back in November with open-ended questions in an online bulletin-board style questionnaire. Responses to those questions helped shape the quantitative survey that is now underway.

Consisting of less than 20 questions, the survey is brief and should take alumni only a few minutes to complete – and there’s extra incentive to do so, according to Eldridge.

“Names of alumni who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing,” she explained. “One lucky person will receive a Kindle Fire; another will be given a $100 Visa gift card.”

Mary Beth West Consulting, LLC, and collaborator Bryant Research have been hired to develop the survey instrument, randomly sample the alumni base, analyze the data and develop communications recommendations.

“We hope all alumni who are contacted to participate will lend us their feedback,” said Holly Jackson-Sullivan, vice president of advancement and community relations for the College, back in November. “The College continuously strives to improve the way we communicate and build relationships with alumni, and learning directly from them how we can improve will provide valuable input as we plan our future publications.”

After the survey is completed, the College will report back to the larger alumni base the key results of the study, as well as resulting actions that the College is considering, in light of the feedback.
