The student organization Maryville College for our Military and their Families (MC4MF) will hold a Yellow Ribbon Car and Vendor Show at Maryville College on Sat., June 23 and Sun., June 24 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the Knoxville Zoo and East Tennessee Fencing Company, the event is free and open to the public and will feature old, new and unusual cars and motorcycles, as well as a variety of vendors. The family-friendly event will also include activities for children.

On Sat., June 23, the car show will be judged by local soldiers. A “Swap Meet” will be held on Sun., June 24 to allow attendees to buy, sell or trade car and motorcycle parts.

MC4MF was started in Oct. 2011 by MC students Katie Grace and Melissa Kiewiet, who wanted to raise awareness and encourage the Maryville College community to support and show appreciation for local military men and women.

“For us, the military is part of our family both on and off campus,” Grace said.

Proceeds from car and vendor registration fees will benefit local military families. The MC4MF co-presidents said they thought a car and vendor show would be a fun way to bring the community together while raising awareness and money for a great cause.

“We are going to send them to the zoo or Dollywood or provide another service such as building a ramp, if that’s what they need more. We want to give them a day of normalcy and fun – something that many of these families have not been able to have,” Grace said. “We want to reach out to those wounded warriors and provide them with something they can’t get from the VA or other military organizations but from their community. We believe in helping them out in any way we can.”

The cost to show a car or motorcycle is $10 per spot per day, and the vendor registration fee is $100 to $200 for both days. Anyone who would like to show a car or motorcycle or set up a vendor booth should email mc4mf@my.maryvillecollege.edu or call Katie Grace at 865.332.6862.
