The student organization Maryville College for our Military and their Families (MC4MF) will hold its Second Annual Yellow Ribbon Car Show at Maryville College on Sat., April 27.
The event will be held in the Clayton Center for the Arts parking lot from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Judging will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., and prizes will be awarded at 1:30 p.m. Local military personnel will serve as judges.
Sponsored by ZORB® Smoky Mountains, the event is free and open to the public and will feature old, new and unusual cars, trucks and motorcycles. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and the family-friendly event will also include activities for children.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to buy, sell or trade cars, trucks and motorcycles.
MC4MF was started in October 2011 by students who wanted to raise awareness and encourage the Maryville College community to support and show appreciation for local military men and women.
“For us, the military is part of our family both on and off campus,” said MC senior Katie Grace, who is president of the organization.
Proceeds from registration fees will benefit local military families. Grace said she thought a car show would be a fun way to bring the community together while raising awareness and money for a great cause.
“The money will help local veterans with home repairs or building ramps, depending on their needs. For others, we want to give them a day of normalcy and fun – something that many of these families have not been able to have,” Grace said. “We want to reach out to those wounded warriors and provide them with something they can’t get from the VA or other military organizations but from their community. We believe in helping them out in any way we can.”
The cost to show a car, truck or motorcycle is $10 per spot. Anyone who would like to purchase a spot should email email@example.com or call Katie Grace at 865.332.6862.
