The small ensembles at Maryville College will present “Feaste of Sweetes,” an evening of sweet sounds and desserts, on Fri., Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall at the Clayton Center for the Arts.
Off Kilter, a mixed vocal ensemble of 12 singers, will sing traditional carols such as “Ding Dong Merrily on High,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Coventry Carol,” “Carol of the Bells” and “What Child is This?” The group will finish its portion of the program with a humorous version of the “Twelve Days of Christmas,” which incorporates the popular poem “The Twelve Thank You Notes of Christmas.”
The Lads, an all men’s ensemble, and the Lassies, an all women’s ensemble, will sing arrangements of popular Christmas songs. The Lads will sing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” and “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.” The Lassies will sing “Santa Baby” and “Sleigh Ride.” Together, the two groups will sing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
The program will end with all groups singing “Still, Still, Still” and “Carol of the Drum,” as well as a sing-along of “Silent Night.”
“Nothing will get you into the holiday spirit faster than music!” said Stacey Wilner, coordinator of choral music at Maryville College. “The Feaste of Sweetes will be a great way to jump-start your holiday with song and desserts in a hall decorated with all the trimmings of the Christmas. There is a rumor that Santa has a real sweet tooth and may get the sleigh out a little early for a trial run, just so he can stop by and join the festivities. We hope to get a fireplace and stockings set up in the lobby so that he will feel at home.”
Immediately following the concert, audience members are invited to enjoy homemade desserts, coffee and cider in the lobby.
Tickets, which are $15, are available online or by calling the Clayton Center of the Arts Box Office at 865.981.8150. Proceeds go to support international travel for the Maryville College Concert Choir. Gift baskets will also be available for purchase during the event.
