Scots seek revenge against Rhodes College on Saturday
Sept. 11, 2002
The Maryville College Fighting Scots Football Team takes on Rhodes College for the first home game of the year this Saturday, Sept. 14, at Honaker Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Last year, the Scots took a beating against Rhodes College with the final score ending at 41-7. The MC Football Team is definitely looking to get some revenge against Rhodes College this Saturday, and from Assistant MC Football Coach Christian Ozolins' perspective, this year's MC Football Team could easily earn paybacks against Rhodes this weekend.
"We are definitely an offensive-minded team, but defensively this year we are also more mature," Ozolins said. "All around, we are just a better team."
The MC Football Team has shown early this year that they will definitely fight hard to try and win. Last week the Scots came from behind to send the match-up with Westminster College (Mo.) into overtime. The game ended with a tough 38-41 loss, but the Scots ended the game with 530 yards of total offense. The Scots are looking to bounce back from last week's heartbreaking loss.
Rhodes College is also looking to bounce back from a loss last week. The Lynx were defeated by DePauw College last week with a final score of 25-34.
During MC's game last year against Rhodes College, injuries were a major factor in the outcome of the game. In the second quarter, the Scots were forced to play their fourth-string quarterback, Jarrod Cruze, because of injuries.
If injuries can stay away from the Scots on Saturday, the Scots should give Rhodes a good game. Coach Ozolins feels good about the Scots' home-field advantage.
"We always play well at home. If we can remedy a few correctable mistakes, we should play well on Saturday," he said.
