Alumni and friends of Maryville College are invited to join members of the College’s Environment and Forestry Advisory Committee (EFAC) and other campus constituents for an environmental retreat scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Jan. 24, at the Chilhowee Club.
The facility is located at 223 Clarion Avenue in Maryville.
Among the items up for discussion are emphases outlined in the Maryville College Sustainability Suggestion Study (which is explained below), preparations for a campus-wide environmental audit and the creation of a document that describes the College’s vision for responsible environmental stewardship.
During the fall of 2006, Maryville College President Dr. Gerald W. Gibson asked EFAC to create a document cataloguing environmental ideas and sustainability suggestions from the MC community that would be used in future strategic planning at the College.
With the end in sight of the Maryville College Windows of Opportunity strategic plan, Gibson felt the timing was appropriate to have such a document created to inform the College and to aid the Maryville College Cabinet as the campus begins discussions about “next steps.” The EFAC titled the document “The Sustainability Suggestions Study.”
While parts of this study resonate with references to current campus projects and their implementation, the document’s focus is both current and long range. According to authors of the study, “It anticipates a future at Maryville College when sustainable environmental programming will be an even greater part of our school’s daily life.”
Electronic copies of the long and short versions of the study can be made available to interested persons.
There is no cost to attend, but retreat organizers would like people to email or call for seat reservations. To do so – or to request an electronic copy of the Sustainability Suggestion Study – contact Dori May at 865.981.8074 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Terry Bunde at 865.981.8279 or email@example.com.
