The Center for Calling & Career (CC&C)

The Center for Calling & Career, located in Bartlett Hall 308, fosters moral, spiritual and personal reflection on issues of vocation and vocational discernment. The CC&C seeks to help every Maryville College student think about his or her future life and work in terms of calling and vocation while providing opportunities for self-exploration, reflection, and professional practice in all aspects of vocational and career development. The goal of the Center is to enable students to make a connection between who they are, who they want to become, and what they want to do in the world, through self-awareness, theological discernment and professional experiences.

By offering individual appointments, workshops, web and print materials, the center assists students with:

  • Major and Career Research- Choosing a major (What Can I Do With A Major In…), Understanding the world of work (salary/industry info), Graduate school (, admissions essays, where/when to begin)
  • Practical Experience - part/full-time jobs, internships, seasonal work
  • Skill-Building - resume writing, informational interviewing, job shadowing, professional behavior and communication, interview practice
  • Vocational Discernment- The overarching process of weaving together knowledge of self, the world of work, and practical experiences into an understanding of one’s calling and how it relates to career options- it’s what really sets the CC&C apart from just a “career center.”
