Bonner Scholars
The Maryville College Bonner Scholars program is designed to give students who have been very active in community service during high school a chance to continue serving others while in college. Fifteen incoming freshmen are chosen each year based on an application and interview process. Each Scholar is required to volunteer at a non-profit organization for 10 hours each week during the school year and for 280 hours over the summer. The scholarship is worth approximately $3,000. The Scholars work with the Bonner Scholar Coordinator to find an appropriate volunteer site.
Nationwide Programs
The Maryville College Bonner Scholars Program is one of 24 collegiate Bonner programs nationwide, each receiving support from the Bonner Foundation in Princeton, NJ. Bonner Scholars engage in training and reflection on the various placements at which they volunteer. Monthly meetings, as well as occasional retreats, guide the Scholars in becoming educated community servants through reflection exercises and leadership training.
