Church & College Scholars
The primary purpose of the Church and College Scholarship program is to encourage students to explore opportunities to serve others while preparing them to be future leaders in the church and community. Church and College scholarships are given by individuals and churches to assist students with the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board. Students receive a $2,000 scholarship in exchange for their commitment of (at least) three hours of weekly service during the school year to area churches and organizations. The Campus Minister advises the Scholars in selecting appropriate service sites and monitors the students’ level of commitment.
Additional Activities
In addition, Church and College Scholars also gather together for fellowship outside of their service commitments for activities such as cookouts, ice-skating, and a Christmas party. Reflection exercises are another important component of the Scholars’ growth in the program and are incorporated in various activities throughout the year. Service sites are typically local churches, and in the case of the Micah 6 service program, the Blount County Juvenile Detention Center.
