Residence Hall Association (RHA)

The Residence Hall Association exists for the benefit of all residential students who reside on the campus of Maryville College. The Residence Hall Association is established to provide a means of unifying the individual residence halls by furthering the common interests of the residents and promoting better relations and communications between residence halls. The common goal is to increase the efficiency of the residence halls by coordinating activities that may be to their advantage and to officially represent the interests of the residence halls to all of Maryville College and all other organizations. This organization shall be a self-governing body that works in conjunction with the Student Government Association to deal with factors related to and affecting the residential life program on the Maryville College campus.

Who is RHA?

RHA is composed of representatives elected by the student body and establishes committees to supervise specific areas of residential life and to address residential concerns. The Voting Council is structured to include the Executive Board and two representatives from each residence hall. The Executive Board consists of President, Two Vice Presidents (Internal & External), National Communications Coordinator, and Treasurer. Ex-officio members include the advisor, various committee chairs, and the hall council members of each hall. RHA is advised by selected members of the residence life staff, as appointed by the Asst. Dean of Students for Campus Life. Duties and responsibilities for RHA are outlined in the RHA Constitution. Specific issues and concerns relating to residential life are guided by the Residence Hall Association and each individual hall council. Students interested in running for office or serving on Residential committees should contact their Hall Council President or the Residence Life Office at (865) 981 - 8192.

How to get involved?

RHA offers great leadership opportunities. Such opportunities can be from being on your hall council and bringing together your floor while meeting your neighbors all the way up to national positions in the National Association of College and University Residence Halls, NACURH, Inc. Other such levels are the Executive Board, Regional Board of Directors, and National Board of Directors. RHA also offers great experience for all majors from Pre-med, working with people, to Business, managing budgets and people. There are many life skills that can be learned simply from the RHA experience.

You can get involved in hall council by signing-up for hall council elections when you arrive on campus. Additionally, if you seek a more immediate impact, you can contact a member of the executive board and join one of their committees as we will look at programming for the year as well as staffing and selection for the new residence hall.
