Library Services
- Reference librarians are available during most library hours. Reference librarians offer individual help with planning research and with locating and using information resources.
- Reference librarians also schedule individual appointments for planning research projects and teaching information location and information evaluation skills.
- Students can check out library materials, get information on library accounts, and resolve library billing issues at the Help Desk. For circulation questions, contact the Circulation Coordinator at 865.981.8099. Copies of the library’s circulation policies are available at the Help Desk and online at http://faculty.maryvillecollege.edu/library/circulation/index.html.
- The library places materials submitted by professors on course reserve at the Help Desk. Most reserve materials can be used for two hours at a time, in the library only.
- The library will borrow books and articles it does not own from other libraries at no charge to you. This service is called interlibrary loan.
Expectations
Library use and library services are based on consideration of others. Our mission statement says, “The library remains committed to providing a physical space that is inviting and user-oriented and that accommodates individual study, collaborative learning, and the building of a community of learning.” This means that the primary use of the library is for academic purposes, including studying, researching, writing, and completing class assignments. While in the library, please be respectful of your fellow students’ need to accomplish these goals. The courtesy of a quiet atmosphere is expected. No food or tobacco products are allowed in the library, but you may bring beverages in covered containers. Guidelines for library use are posted in the library, and copies of the guidelines are available at the Help Desk.
Library materials must be respected and treated with care. Students are responsible for being aware of, caring for, and returning all materials they have checked out. Students may not be allowed to check out additional library materials until overdue items are returned and fines are paid. As with all College obligations, any library debt (material or money) will block a student from registration. Anyone who damages, steals, or conceals library property will be subject to College disciplinary action and/or legal proceedings.
