Senior Lecturer in Music, Director of Choral Activities

Stacey Murphy Wilner, who has served as director of choral music at Maryville College since 1999, has joined the faculty as lecturer in music. In addition to her faculty appointment, she will continue her role as director of the Maryville College Concert Choir and Off Kilter, the College’s select vocal ensemble. She will also teach conducting courses and supervise music education senior theses.

A graduate of Concord College and the University of Tennessee, Wilner has degrees in music education and choral conducting. Active as a guest conductor and clinician at festivals in the South, she is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the Tennessee Music Education Association and the East Tennessee Vocal Association, serving as college representative for the board of directors. In 2007, Wilner was the recipient of Maryville College’s Administrator of the Year Award. During her tenure at Maryville College, Wilner doubled the number of students in the Concert Choir and added chamber ensembles Off Kilter, Lads & Lassies to the curriculum. She expanded the Concert Choir’s domestic touring schedule and facilitated both international performances and alumni tours for the college. She has hosted numerous benefit choral festivals for local non-profit agencies and has expanded the community choral music offerings to include three youth choirs. In January 2013, Wilner and MC alumna and renowned opera singer Delores Ziegler ’73 worked together to create an opera scenes program for the College.
