Complete your SPE

The SPE gives you a substantial taste of professional life in a field of your choosing. To make the most of the experience, you need to apply the goals you set with your academic advisor in your SPE Proposal, learn about the industry, and connect your academic preparation to the opportunity.

Your SPE may take the form of an internship, a volunteer opportunity, a senior study, a study abroad experience, a creative project, or another experience relevant to your career goals.

When is this requirement usually completed?

SPEs are completed between the junior year and the first semester of the senior year.

Who approves this requirement?

Your faculty supervisor will review evaluations from your site-supervisor halfway through the execution of most SPEs. Your adviser will check that you are making satisfactory progress, and further guide towards successful completion of goals as needed. Your adviser or SPE supervisor will certify final completion of the SPE.
